What can I expect?
Koa Culinary Studio offers a variety of workshops which are categorised according to their focus. Both skills workshops and health workshops use demonstration-style workshops and/or hands-on workshops. The workshops are taught by our team of professionally trained and experienced chef instructors who will explain ingredients and demonstrate cooking techniques at the beginning of each workshop.
What is included in the course fee?
As a variety of recipes are prepared during each workshop, we provide the following:
- Introductory demonstration with lots of free tips and ideas;
- Guidance from the chef instructors during the cooking process;
- Printed recipes;
- Kitchen equipment;
- A delicious meal; and
- Coffee, tea and water.
What must I bring?
Most of the equipment is provided, but participants are advised to bring their own knives. We do offer a selection of high quality knives for sale, which may be ordered prior to a workshop. If you want to bring your own favourite cookware, please feel free to do so. A camera or phone for taking photos is always an excellent idea!
What is the difference between workshop focus?
Skills Workshops – These workshops focus on a particular skill, for example pastry making, macaroon baking or essential knife skills.
Health workshops – The focus of the health workshops is to enhance participants’ skills to make mindful and deliberate decisions about ingredients, and to encourage conversation about food and well-being through the preparation and eating of healthy and delicious meals.
What is the difference between workshop styles?
Hands-on workshops – Learning by experience or participation is of significant meaning to us and therefore all participants recreate and practice what has been shown by the chef instructor. We guide and assist you in culinary techniques as you work. All food cooked is enjoyed in class.
Demonstration workshops – These workshops are ideal for participants who like to learn by watching. You can witness how all dishes are created from start to finish. The chef instructor will have the opportunity to explain techniques and methods with examples, offering all their professional advice and answering all your questions. This is the class where you can relax, sit back, watch and learn. All food demonstrated is enjoyed in class.
What is the duration of workshops?
Four (4) hours which include the introduction, cooking and eating time.
When do the workshops take place?
Two sessions are available on Tuesdays from 9:00 – 13:00 as well as 14:00 – 18:00. A schedule of the workshops can be found on the Workshops page.

How do I enrol?
An enrolment form is available on the website. Simply select the workshop you would like to attend, complete the booking form and send it back to us in order to reserve a temporary booking. All workshops are on a first come, first served basis. Your booking is secured on payment of a 50% deposit for the workshop seven (7) days before commencement of the workshop. The balance needs to be paid two (2) days before the start of the workshop.
How much do the workshops cost?
The cost per workshop varies depending on the type of workshop. Please note that workshops are only held if a minimum number of places have been booked. Emergencies or other prohibitive conditions may necessitate a cancellation.
What happens when a workshop is cancelled?
Refunds will be issued if Koa Culinary Studio cancels a workshop. Students will be given advance notice of cancellations. An alternative date will be communicated with participants.
What happens if I cannot attend the workshop?
A booking can be transferred to another class or you are welcome to invite a friend to come in your place.
Where do I park?
Secured parking is available (entrance from South Street).
What do I wear?
At hands-on workshops we strongly recommend wearing closed-toe flat shoes with rubber soles for safety reasons. No thongs, sandals or stilettos please. Short sleeves with minimal jewellery make cooking easier. We also advise against tops without sleeves and shorts as they provide no protection for your body. Aprons will be provided for use during the workshop. There are no dress requirements for demonstration workshops that do not include hands-on cooking or baking.
Can I come on my own?
Of course you can! This is the ideal set-up to meet other people who share your love for food and cooking.
Can we take the food away?
All food has to be consumed on the premises, but whatever is not finished in class, gets wrapped up and may be taken home.
- Please be aware whilst all effort is made to prepare and cook recipes advertised, these may change according to availability of fresh seasonal products. Occasionally a recipe in the workshop may change without notice.
- Please advise us if you have an allergy to certain food and we can advise suitable workshops to attend.
- Koa Culinary Studio reserves the right to postpone or cancel the workshop should the required number of participants not be met.
- The workshops are non-professional workshops and designed for personal enrichment and recreation; they are not intended to qualify participants for employment.
We understand traffic happens! But please make your best effort to be on time for classes. The classes are designed so that the content of the class fits into that specific time frame. A 20-minute late arrival throws off all the cooking, prep, and instruction time of a specific class.
